What is CTS (Cheque Truncation System)?

CTS is an image-based cheque clearing system introduced by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) for faster and safer cheque processing. It replaces the physical movement of cheques with scanned images and relevant data for electronic processing.

Key Benefits for Customers

  • Faster Clearing: Get your funds credited quickly – usually on the next working day.

  • Secure Processing: No risk of cheque loss or tampering in transit.

  • Convenient Tracking: Easily track cheque status through your bank account.

Important Guidelines for Issuing CTS-Compliant Cheques

To ensure smooth processing and avoid delays, please follow these guidelines:

  1. Use CTS-2010 Standard Cheque Books:
Only CTS-2010 standard cheques are accepted. If you have an older cheque book, please request a new one from your branch.

  2. Write Clearly:

    • Use dark ink (preferably black or blue).

    • Avoid overwriting or corrections.

    • Fill in all fields (date, payee name, amount in words and figures).

  3. Signature Must Match:
Sign cheques as per the bank’s records. Mismatched signatures may lead to rejection.

  4. Avoid Stapling or Folding:
Cheques should be kept flat and free of staples or pins to ensure proper scanning.

  5. Do Not Scribble or Mark on MICR Band:
The lower portion of the cheque (MICR band) must remain clean for accurate reading.
